WHO ARE ORBEA?

Orbea officially started in 1840. But it wasn’t until 1930 that they began manufacturing bicycles.

All their bikes are hand-assembled in Mallabia, Spain (the Basque country). It’s a company that isn’t focussed on cutting corners on build quality.

WHAT THE CARPE IS ABOUT

The Orbea Carpe is designed for riders who are looking for a reliable commuter and general fitness recreational hybrid that has a distinct focus on build-quality and comfort.

It has a relatively upright seating position; relaxed yet sporty enough to make it exciting to ride on bike paths and around suburbia.

So it’s perfect for both men and women who are getting back into riding after an absence or want something to ride with the kids.

THE CARPE 20 BUILD

The Carpe 20 model sits in the middle of Orbea’s premium hybrid range.

It comes standard with hydraulic disc brakes. There’s much less maintenance than mechanical disc brakes and the lever feel is light and smooth. Perfect for small hands too, because the levers can be adjusted closer to the handlebars.

To keep the drivetrain simple, Orbea has decided to use a single 42-tooth chainring on the front paired to 9 gears on the back, ranging from 11-tooth to 36-tooth sprockets. This gear ratio is a little broader than that on the Carpe 40. Meaning you’ll be able to climb hills easier and descend down the other side a bit faster too.

A lightweight aluminium frame and fork keep the Cape 20 feeling light and easy to manoeuvre. But too light can often make the bike feel harsh. So they’ve paired the chassis with 38mm wide tyres to mute vibrations and deliver a smoother ride.

Kenda’s tyre also delivers puncture protection via a thick kevlar belt and reflective sidewalls for much better low-light visibility.
